A directory of browser-based wysiwyg editor components
htmlarea.com is a directory of web-based wysiwyg editor components for
use in CMS (content management software) and other web software.
Both Mozilla (includes FireFox) and Internet Explorer include a way to make
sections of a page editable. IE has the MSHTML Editing Platform, and
Mozilla has Midas.
Many editors are implemented in javascript using the contentEditable and
designMode features in Mozilla and IE. Others use Java, ActiveX, Flash,
browser plugins or other means. Some are free or open-source; others are commercial.
We created this site to keep track of all the different browser based
wysiwyg editors out there, and give developers a place to discuss them
(see our discussion forums).
New categories added, even more software components listed!
Free and commercial interface plugins for use with web applications and web forms. Primarily JavaScript based, though some use server-side technologies like ASP.NET or PHP.

What happened to the htmlArea 2 and 3 editors?
htmlarea 2 and 3 have been discontinued. They were free wysiwyg editors that
were distributed on this site. Visit the directory to find similar products.
